"I can be anything I want when I grow up, but I cannot be a liar.”

Call me a mean mommy if you'd like, but I am EXTREMELY over the sudden problem we are having with lying in our house. The question really becomes this: How sudden is it really? Another question or two comes to mind: How long has this been a problem? Have I been blindly trusting certain children?

I can't answer any of those with certainty, but I can say for sure that I am not willing to be patient about this issue. That being said, we are going to start with this punishment plan shown below, and go from there. In general, I feel like any one of the following three punishments would work, but for a certain child we have been struggling with almost constant lies for? We are going to do all three to make a loud and clear point.  Mean? Yes. Overboard? Possibly. Effective? Here is hoping! Otherwise this list will be growing faster than Pinocchio's nose.

Consequences for Lying

  •        Write each of the scriptures below 5 times each nicely.
  •        Write an apology letter to the person you lied to. Be very specific about what you lied about and why you are sorry. This letter must be at least 4 paragraphs long and include why you lied, as well as what the truth about the situation really is.
  •        Write 100 times: “I can be anything I want when I grow up, but I cannot be a liar.”
